At Burton Pidsea Primary School, our curriculum driver is to empower the children to be the change they want to see:
- In their own lives
- In their own community
- As a global citizen
We want our children to develop the tools, skills and knowledge so they know how to learn and that they become responsible for their own learning. These lifelong learning skills will help all our children succeed in life.
Our curriculum recognises that learning is a change in the long term memory and that this takes time. Our curriculum is designed so children:
- Do more
- Know more
- Remember more.
Our children are supported in this through daily routines and deliberate practise of key skills to aid and develop their retrieval of knowledge.
At Burton Pidsea primary School, learning is sequenced over a 2 year cycle, carefully designed to ensure learning is revisited and extended whilst cross curricular links are made to develop each learning child’s schema and long term memory. Learning across the school is linked to a range of carefully chosen texts covering a range of contexts within the children's own lives, their wider community and the world around them.
We are at the heart of a small, rurally isolated community. Our curriculum is in line with the National Curriculum and builds on what our children already know to ensure all our children have a broad and balanced education which is engaging, meaningful and enjoyable. Our children may have limited experiences outside Burton Pidsea and so we have chosen to enhance and enrich our curriculum, informed by children, parents and other stakeholders, to give all our children the very best experiences and opportunities, developing their cultural capital and skills for life.
At Burton Pidsea Primary School, values for life are threaded through everything we do – these values are taught implicitly and explicitly throughout our curriculum.
IMPACT
At Burton Pidsea Primary School we are proud to be recognised as a school which feels like one big happy family (OFSTED 2021). We recognise that the children in our school will be the citizens of the future and so take the opportunity to influence wider change now. We feel it is important for the children to recognise the part they play within their community and the wider world and demonstrate the respect and responsibility that comes with that.

SEND and Disadvantaged children
Our ambition is for all of our pupils to access the full curriculum and be the best they can be.
We recognise that some pupils need additional academic, social and emotional support to enable them to access everything our school offers and these pupils will be supported to ensure they have full accessibility to all of all opportunities available.
