Implementation

Our curriculum is delivered through a carefully planned balance of adult-led teaching and high-quality, purposeful play. We create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children develop independence, confidence and a positive attitude towards learning.

Learning experiences are thoughtfully sequenced to build on children’s individual starting points. Staff use ongoing assessment to identify what children know and can do, and to plan meaningful next steps that support challenge and sustained progress across all areas of learning.

A core priority is early language development and reading. Through rich interactions, storytelling, high-quality texts and systematic phonics teaching, we ensure children develop the skills needed to become fluent and confident readers.

We recognise that children develop at different rates. Early identification of additional needs enables us to provide timely and targeted support so that all children can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Clear routines and high expectations help children feel secure and understand how to behave as successful learners. Adults prioritise high-quality interactions, knowing when to extend learning and when to step back to encourage independence, problem-solving and collaboration.

Impact 

Children in the Early Years at Burton Pidsea Primary School make strong progress from their individual starting points. Through high-quality teaching, purposeful play and meaningful adult interactions, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be ready for Year 1.

Ongoing observation and assessment ensure that learning is responsive and personalised. Adults carefully monitor children’s development, celebrate achievements and identify next steps to secure continued progress.

By the end of Reception, the majority of children achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD), reaching the expected level in the Early Learning Goals across the prime areas of learning and the specific areas of mathematics and literacy.

Children leave the Early Years as confident communicators, independent learners and curious explorers, equipped with the foundations needed for continued success throughout their primary education.

 

SEND/Disadvantaged

At Burton Pidsea Primary School, we are ambitious for all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those who may be disadvantaged. Our intention is that every child has full access to the EYFS curriculum and is supported to achieve their individual potential.

We recognise that children begin school with different starting points. Through careful observation and early identification of need, we provide timely and targeted support to ensure barriers to learning are reduced. Provision is adapted where necessary through high-quality teaching, appropriate scaffolding, tailored interventions and, where appropriate, external agency support.

Our inclusive environment ensures that all children can participate fully in both adult-led and child-initiated learning opportunities. We work closely with parents and carers to develop strong partnerships, ensuring that support strategies are consistent between school and home.

Through personalised support and high expectations, we strive to ensure that every child makes strong progress from their starting point and is fully prepared for the transition into Key Stage 1.
