Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
At Burton Pidsea Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education in which every child is valued, supported and encouraged to achieve their potential.
SEND stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. A child or young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which means they require special educational provision to support their learning and development.
Children's needs can be varied and may relate to one or more of the following broad areas:
- Communication and interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social, emotional and mental health
- Sensory and/or physical needs
We recognise that every child is unique and that pupils with SEND may experience different barriers to their learning and participation. We work to identify these needs as early as possible and provide appropriate support and adaptations to enable children to access our broad and ambitious curriculum alongside their peers.
High-quality, inclusive classroom teaching is at the heart of our approach. Where a child requires additional or different provision, support is carefully planned around their individual strengths and needs. This may include adaptations to teaching, targeted interventions, additional resources or support from external professionals where appropriate.
We have high expectations for all pupils, including those with SEND. Our aim is not simply for children to access learning, but for them to participate fully, experience success, develop independence and make the best possible progress from their individual starting points.
We value the important role of parents and carers and work in partnership with families, pupils and professionals when identifying needs, planning support and reviewing progress.
Above all, we want every child at Burton Pidsea Primary School to feel safe, included, understood and valued. Pupils with SEND are an integral part of our school community and are supported to participate fully in the academic, social and wider life of our school.
