Our Governing Body

Our governing body plays a vital role in shaping the strategic direction and leadership of Burton Pidsea Primary School. Made up of volunteers from our school and wider community, governors give their time and expertise to support the Headteacher and staff in ensuring strong leadership, effective policies and the best possible experience for every pupil.

Governors work collaboratively to:

Uphold the school’s vision, values and long-term priorities
Oversee financial planning and accountability
Monitor school performance and educational standards
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including safeguarding and the curriculum
Support and challenge school leaders so that all pupils can achieve their potential

Although not involved in day-to-day management, governors take a keen interest in the life of the school, attending meetings, visiting classrooms and contributing to key decisions. Their role is to champion the interests of pupils, families and the community, promoting excellence and continuous improvement.

Chair of Governors

I am the Chair of Governors. As a Headteacher myself, I am passionate about school being the place where children feel like they belong. A sense of belonging enhances the learning experience and helps children to progress and ultimately be ready for their next step in education. Burton Pidsea Primary is a fantastic village school serving its community and our role is to help lead, support, and challenge a school’s senior leadership team to raise educational standards and improve outcomes for pupils.

Local Authority Governor

I have been involved with schools for over 50 years and this involvement continues with me still supporting schools however best they need me.

Being a part of a school is the best job ever and I still feel the passion and excitement as I did when I first started.

My career included me being a PE teacher,a Deputy Headteacher and then a headteacher of two different schools.

Although retired I continue to support a number of schools in and out of our area.

I am also a Parish Counsellor of a local village, as well as being the secretary of the Hull Branch of the Royal British Legion.

In addition I support several Education Authorities in the Yorkshire region in evaluating appeals from families for school places ,as well as adjudicating on pupil exclusion panels.

A strong interest I have is to look to develop Parental Engagement and to build on the good links that exist between the school and its families and the wider Community. Also,to be a positive role model and help children to feel like champions in their own right. They are each very special.

I hope to see you around…why not volunteer to engage with our school helping pupils enjoy their education?

Mrs Kerry Conner

I am a parent of a child at the school and am passionate about supporting the community that plays such an important role in my daughter’s development and education.

Professionally, I have over 20 years’ experience working in the charity sector, specialising in governance and finance. Through my work, I have helped organisations operate effectively and responsibly, with strong oversight and a focus on delivering the best possible outcomes for the communities they serve.

As a school governor, I am pleased to be able to contribute both as a parent and by using my professional experience. I care deeply about the school continuing to provide a positive, inclusive and supportive environment for all pupils, and I am proud to support its leadership and future development.

Miss Katherine Howard

Vice Chair of Governors

I have lived in the Holderness area all of my life and feel passionate about our rural communities.

I currently work as a food and product safety consultant within the food manufacturing, farming and logistics industries. My primary role as a consultant is auditing and internal systems improvement.

I hope to bring my knowledge and experience forward as a governor at Burton Pidsea Primary School enduring the shared vision ‘Firm Foundations for a Successful Future’ continues to be met and improved upon.

Miss Katie Martin

Parent Governor

I moved to Burton Pidsea in 2022 and my son transferred to the school with the move. I joined the governing body in July 2023.

I currently work full time within logistics and move product all around the world, and I have a background in IT, Health and Safety and reconciling finances.

I believe that all children have the right to be happy, safe at school, learn to be the best version of themselves and have their own unique talents explored and celebrated.

I hope to support the school to the best of my ability to achieve the school ethos of providing "Firm Foundations for a successful future"
