Jeans for Genes Day – Thank You!
A huge thank you to all of our families who supported our Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 18th September.
We are delighted to announce that together we raised a fantastic £71.50! 🎉
The money raised will help support children and families affected by genetic conditions, helping to fund vital services and support.

Careers Week 8th - 12th June
Year 5 and 6 Launch Career Week with HETA
Our Year 5 and 6 pupils had a fantastic start to Career Week thanks to a visit from Bridie Robson from HETA (Humberside Engineering Training Association).
Bridie delivered an engaging presentation about the world of engineering, introducing pupils to the wide variety of careers available within the industry. The children learned about the different roles engineers undertake, the skills required for success, and the various pathways into engineering careers, including apprenticeships and further education opportunities.
To bring engineering to life, pupils took part in an exciting practical challenge. Working in teams, they were tasked with building the tallest tower possible using only spaghetti and marshmallows. The activity encouraged creativity, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential qualities for aspiring engineers. The children thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and demonstrated great resilience as they adapted and improved their designs.
The visit provided a valuable insight into future career opportunities and inspired pupils to think about the many pathways available to them. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Bridie and HETA for giving up their time to support our Career Week and for delivering such an informative and enjoyable session.
Careers Week – Exploring Careers in Policing
On Day 2 of Careers Week, we were delighted to welcome PCSO Bainton into school to talk to our Year 5 and 6 pupils about careers in policing.
The session gave children a fascinating insight into the important role that police officers and PCSOs play in keeping communities safe. PCSO Bainton explained the different responsibilities involved in policing, the skills and qualities needed for the role, and the various career pathways available within the police service.
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for pupils to take a closer look at a police vehicle. The children were excited to explore the police car and learn about the equipment carried inside. They also had the chance to examine parts of the police uniform and discuss how different items help officers carry out their duties safely and effectively.
The children particularly enjoyed using a speed gun to monitor the speed of vehicles travelling through the village. This practical activity helped them understand the importance of road safety and the role that police officers play in helping to keep roads safe for everyone. Pupils were fully engaged and eager to put their new skills into practice as they recorded the speeds of passing vehicles.
The visit was both educational and enjoyable, providing pupils with a valuable insight into a career in policing and the many ways officers support and protect our communities. We would like to thank PCSO Bainton for taking the time to visit our school and inspire our pupils during Careers Week.
Careers Week – Discovering a Career in Nursing
As part of our Careers Week activities, we were delighted to welcome Mrs Clark, one of our school parents, who visited Year 5 and 6 to talk about her career in nursing.
Mrs Clark gave the children a fascinating insight into the nursing profession, explaining the important role nurses play in caring for patients and supporting their health and wellbeing. She discussed the different areas of nursing, the skills and qualities needed for the job, and the training and qualifications required to pursue a career in healthcare.
The session was made even more engaging by the range of medical equipment that Mrs Clark brought with her. Pupils had the opportunity to handle bandages, stethoscopes and an otoscope, the instrument used to examine inside a patient's ears. The children thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on experience, which helped bring the profession to life and gave them a better understanding of the tools nurses use every day.
Throughout the session, pupils asked a wide variety of thoughtful questions about nursing, healthcare and working in a hospital environment. Mrs Clark was able to share her experiences and provide an honest and inspiring insight into what it is like to work in such a rewarding profession.
The visit was both informative and interactive, helping pupils to learn more about careers in healthcare and inspiring them to consider the many opportunities available within the medical profession. We would like to thank Mrs Clark for taking the time to visit our school and for delivering such an engaging and memorable session.
Key Stage 2 - Easter Service - March 2026
Key Stage 2 pupils enjoyed a special visit to the village church for our Easter Service, led by Mrs Barker. Families and members of the local community were warmly invited to join us for this meaningful occasion. The children listened thoughtfully to the Easter story and took part in a reflective activity, writing their own prayers on egg-shaped paper to place on the cross. The service was a wonderful opportunity for reflection, community, and celebration—finished off, of course, with a well-earned chocolate egg for everyone!
Talent Contest – Red Nose Day (Friday 20th March 2026)
We had a fantastic time celebrating Red Nose Day with our talent contest on Friday 20th March. There were some amazing performances, lots of laughter, and great support from everyone involved. Take a look through the photos to see some of the highlights from a fun and memorable day!
Easter Bingo – Tuesday 24th March 2026 - FOBPSA
Our Easter Bingo event on Tuesday 24th March was a wonderful success, filled with fun, laughter, and great prizes. A huge thank you to FOBPSA for hosting the event, organising the raffle, and serving refreshments throughout the evening. It was fantastic to see so many people come together – fun was truly had by all!

Chinese New Year - January 2025
EYFS area
We are all working very hard to make our site as green as possible to attract wildlfe. We love to reuse and recycle! We have planted hedgerows and wildflowers. We also have a sensory hedge.
JP Developers visit
JP Developers visited school and worked with the children focussing on jobs in the construction industry and how to use their maths skills in real life contexts. Children built hedgehog houses, bug hotels and then designed houses for the future.
Lion's Learners
Lion's Learners visited our school with a selection of animals. We were all very brave (including the staff) and learnt how to hold the animals carefully. We learnt a lot about animal behaviour, life cycles and habitats but we also talked about the benefits animals and pets can have on our own emotional health and wellbeing.
Yorkshire Conservation Volunteers
We helped volunteers from the Yorkshire Conservation Volunteers Trust to plant some new hedgerows around the perimeter of the school. We planted willow and birch to provide habitats for our local wildlife and also improve the drainage on our play areas and hopefully prevent any more flooding.
Stay and Learn - How to Mummify a Fish
Our topic is about the Ancient Egyptian Civilisation. We learnt all about how the Ancient Egyptians believed that it was possible to live again after death, but this could only happen if the body and organs were preserved. To help us understand this, we mummified a fish.
We also invited our parents and carers in to help us learn.
We then used this knowledge to write an piece of Instructional writing, explaining how to mummify a fish.
Prehistoric art
The children in Lower Key Stage 2 are learning all about pre historic times.
In art, we have recreated our own cave paintings, working on paper under the desks with the lights turned off. After discussion, the children knew all they could use was a stick of charcoal and a twig to help with blending.
Christmas Pantomime
This year, the Christmas pantomime came to school. All the children watched a performance and had lots of fun.
It was wonderful watching the children respond to live performances and having the confidence to take part.
Thank you to FOBPSA for helping with the funding for this, including ice creams for every child, and to Burton Pidsea Parish Council for their generous donation towards the cost of the performance.
Diwali Dance Workshop
We were lucky to have a visit from a London dance troupe to work with the children, focussing on Diwali and how the story can be represented through movement and dance.
Key Stage 2 Residential - 2023
The children in Years 4, 5 and 6 had the opportunity to take part in a residential visit to Dobroyd castle near Todmorden. They had a wonderful time and were, as always, a credit to the school.

Class 4 Farm to Fork Day
The children in Years 5 and 6 had a wonderful day out at Driffield Showground, learning all about how the food they eat reaches their plate. They learnt all about how to care for livestock, oil and cheese production as well as road safety reminders.
Science
Class 3 investigated how we hear sound in their science lessons and had lots of fun experimenting with making sounds and learning how sound travels.
Indonesia
The whole school learnt about Indonesia during our Spring Term Curriculum week. Across the school we learnt about the rainforests, traditional tales, food and culture as well as the evolution of the Indonesian hobbits. At the end of the week we had a showcase where parents were invited in so the children could share their learning with them.
The children in class 3 and 4 learnt how to make a vegatarian Rendang dish - it was lovely!
Children in class 1 learnt about the Indonesian rainforests and the animals that live there.
Indonesia Gamelan
We were very lucky to have the opportunity to play Indonesian Gamelan cymbals and learn traditional Indonesian folk tales. Even our parents and carers came into school and had a go!
Forest School
The children in Class 1 visit a forest school every term and learn all about how the forest changes each season.
